I would be most interested Tom in your critique of the books I have written trying to provide a rational interpretation of psychic phenomena. Trying to answer the two complaints you have raised is precisely what my last four books have been about. There have been several other books by much better-known authors subsequently that argue along similar lines.
Two of the most constant complaints about all things paranormal are:
The first complaint can be answered by answering the second with a theory that is both substantiated with research and supported by a large number of researchers. Much of current psi research leans toward mainstream quantum theory, perhaps only requiring the existence of mind-body duality and psi mediated influences.
As one who studies transcommunication (audio and visual Instrumental TransCommunication (ITC) which includes Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP)), mediumship and psi mediated phenomena, I have a different take on what a reasonable theory might look like than say, a researcher only considering psi functioning. I expect such a theory to at least consider sentient survival phenomena along with mind-body duality and psi.
Currently, I am not aware of a well articulated theory that can be cited to answer the second complain.
Does anyone know of one? Any ideas?
